Farmiga and Monaghan in Source Code
Vera Farmiga and Michelle Monaghan have joined the cast of Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
In the movie Gyllenhaal stars as a soldier who, as part of an experimental government program to investigate a terrorist incident, finds himself in the body of an unknown commuter living and reliving a harrowing train bombing until he can find out who is responsible. Sounds kinda like Groundhog Day — with terrorists. Like if the real reason Bill Murray kept living the same day over and over was because of a secret government program to discover the identity of the person who killed Punxsutawney Phil.
Farmiga will play a hands-on communications officer controlling Gyllenhaal as he travels through time and space. Monaghan plays a woman on the train and Gyllenhaal’s romantic interest. Duncan Jones will direct for Summit Entertainment. Filming begins in March.
Farmiga/Caan in Henry’s Crime
Vera Farmiga and James Caan have joined the cast of Henry’s Crime starring Keanu Reeves.
The romantic comedy casts Reeves as a big-hearted man who is falsely accused of robbing a bank in Buffalo. Farmiga will play the romantic interest. Malcolm Venville will direct from a script by Sacha Gervasi. Production is set to begin in upstate New York later this year.
Reeves next stars with Robin Wright in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. Farmiga will be in theaters in December with George Clooney in Jason Reitman’s Up In the Air.
Up In the Air Trailer
/Film has debuted the teaser trailer for Jason Reitman’s Up In the Air starring George Clooney, Anna Kendrick and Vera Farmiga. The trailer asks the question “How much does your life weigh?” While initially watching the video, I was having internet connection/buffering issues and thought it asked “How much does your wife weigh?” I thought that was a little inappropriate, but sorted it all out after stopping the Flash player and downloading the HD version instead. That’s why QuickTime will always be better than Flash. (Incidentally, I’m quite happy with what my wife weighs, thank you very much.)
The trailer also provides a brief look at some of the film’s other characters played by the likes Reitman regulars J.K. Simmons (Thank You For Smoking and Juno) and Jason Bateman (Juno) as well as Danny McBride and Zach Galifianakis to name a few. Check out the video below or head over to /Film to watch in HD.
Up In the Air will be playing this weekend at the Toronto International Film Festival and will open in theaters December 4th.
First Clip from Up In the Air

The first clip from Jason Reitman’s Up In the Air is online at Apple. The movie stars George Clooney as Ryan Bingham, a corporate downsizing expert who flies around the country firing people and collecting frequent flyer miles. Just as he’s about to reach his goal of ten million miles, a new colleague named Natalie (Anna Kendrick) is hired to modernize the way people are fired using video conferencing. This, of course, would render Ryan obsolete and get in his way of achieving his goal. So, he decides to take Natalie on a road trip to show her how to fire somebody face to face. The movie also stars Vera Farmiga as a fellow business traveler with whom Ryan develops a relationship.
Up In the Air had its first public screening this past weekend at Telluride and will be showing this coming weekend at the Toronto International Film Festival. We’ll be seeing the movie and bringing you more from TIFF. Until then, check out Apple for the clip.
