Thor Adds The Warriors Three
Director Kenneth Branagh is putting the final touches on the cast for Thor, which will begin production in January in Los Angeles and shoot in Santa Fe, New Mexico beginning in March until late April.
With a cast that already includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Hopkins as his father Odin, Natalie Portman as nurse Jane Foster, Jaimie Alexander as the Asgardian warrior Sif, Tom Hiddleston as the villain and Thor’s brother Loki, as well as Stellan Skarsgard and Colm Feore, Branagh has picked the three actors who will play The Warriors Three.
The Warriors Three are a Marvel Comics creation – three Asgardians gods who fight alongside Thor. They include Volstagg the Valiant (Ray Stevenson), Fandral the Dashing (Stuart Townsend) and Hogun the Grim (Tadanobu Asano).
Stevenson is the star of the hit tv series Rome but also starred in Punisher: War Zone last year.
Townsend is best know for playing Lestat de Lioncourt in Queen of the Damned and Dorian Gray in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Tadanobu Asano is considered the Johnny Depp of Japan. He is probably best known in North America for his roles in Ichi the Killer and Mongol.
Thor will be in theatres on May 20, 2011.
Thor Adds Movie Legend Anthony Hopkins To The Mix
The movie adaptation of Marvel Comics superhero Thor just added a little swagger to its step. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog multiple Oscar nominee and one-time winner Anthony Hopkins has been added to the cast. Hopkins will play Odlin, the ruler of Asgard and Thor’s father.
Hopkins joins a cast that already includes Chris Hemsworth (who will play Thor), Natalie Portman, Colm Feore, Stellan Skarsgard, Jaimie Alexander, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson and of course, Stan Lee. Rumours are abound that Robert DeNiro and Jude Law are in talks to star in the movie as well but there has been no confirmation of their involvement.
Kenneth Branagh will direct.
Thor will start shooting in January 2010 for its May 20, 2011 release date.
Skarsgard Joins Thor Cast
Stellan Skarsgard has revealed that he has a role in the upcoming Marvel Studios’ Thor movie.
Skarsgard joins a cast that already includes Natalie Portman, Colm Feore, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander and the little known Chris Hemsworth, who will play Thor. Hemsworth appeared in Star Trek earlier this summer. He played George Kirk, the father of James T. Kirk.
There is also a rumour that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) will make an appearance and we can also expect some kind of cameo from Stan “The Man” Lee.
Kenneth Branagh is the lucky man who will direct Thor.
Filming is scheduled to begin in January 2010 and the studio has targeted May 20, 2011 as its release date.
Natalie Portman Joins Thor!
Marvel Studios has confirmed an earlier report that Natalie Portman has been cast in the upcoming Thor playing Jane Foster. In the comics, Foster was a nurse who became Thor’s first love. Chris Hemsworth stars as the title character. Tom Hiddleston plays the villain Loki. Here’s the summary from Marvel:

Kenneth Branagh is directing the movie which is scheduled to begin filming in early 2010 for a May 20, 2011 release.
