Movie Review: Couples Retreat
In Couples Retreat, four couples with varying degrees of marital problems head off to a resort on a tropical island that has a course dedicated to healing troubled marriages. The problems in the marriages range from a lack of romance because of work and children to outright adultery. Amongst the couples are Dave (Vince Vaughn) and Ronnie (Malin Akerman) who seem to have a pretty decent marriage but suffer from the lack of romance problem; Jason (Jason Bateman) and Cynthia (Kristen Bell) who spearhead the trip to the healing resort and who are having problems mostly because they cannot conceive a child; Joey (Jon Favreau) and Lucy (Kristin Davis) who have been together since high school and blatantly cheat on each other every chance they get; and Shane (Faizon Love), who has just split from his wife Jennifer (Tasha Smith) and is dating a 20-year old (Kali Hawk) who calls him “Daddy”. The island’s therapy sessions are supervised by a French dude in a Speedo named Marcel (Jean Reno) who receives assistance from a yoga instructor named Salvadore (Carlos Ponce), who also sports a Speedo and who specializes in grinding his private parts on all the married women during his yoga classes. Couples Retreat Trailer is Funny
The trailer for Couples Retreat is online and I have to say, it looks pretty damn funny. I saw this trailer last week when I went to a screening of Transformers 2 and I laughed my ass off. The movie is directed by Jon Favreau (who also appears in the movie) and stars Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Jean Reno and a handful of others. It’s basically about a couple who goes to a tropical resort to get marriage counselling. They bring three other couples with them but unfortunately, everyone must participate in the therapy. Looks like it’s going to be a hoot. Couples Retreat will be in theatres on October 9th. Check out the trailer below.
Phillippe/Akerman in Bang Bang Club
Ryan Phillippe and Watchmen hottie Malin Akerman and will star in The Bang Bang Club.
The indie drama, set in apartheid-era South Africa, casts Akerman as the photo editor of the so-called Bang Bang Club, four combat war photogs — Marinovich (Phillippe), Kevin Carter (Taylor Kitsch), Ken Oosterbroek and Joao Silva — whose photographs captured the final bloody days of white rule in South Africa.
Filming is scheduled to begin next month in and around Johannesburg with South African documentary filmmaker Steven Silver directing from his own script. The project is based on a memoir by Marinovich and Silva.
