Everybody's Fine

Everybody’s Fine stars Robert De Niro as a retired gentleman in his 60’s who recently lost his wife. He is expecting his four adult children to spend the weekend at his house. He cuts his lawn, cleans the house, buys a new bbq to grill the big steaks he bought to go along with an expensive bottle of wine he purchased. Then he checks the answering machine – his two daughters have called to confirm that they and their two brothers were all too busy to go to his house that weekend. So Frank Goode, against the wishes of his doctor, sets out on a cross-country journey to visit his diverse and successful children and get the update as to what is going on in their lives. Read more

Talk about a Photoshop disaster. Below is the newly released poster for Everybody’s Fine. The movie stars Robert De Niro as a father who sets off on a cross-country Greyhound bus ride from New York to Las Vegas to reunite with each of his children. Also starring are Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell. The trailer for the movie was released last month and looked decent — but I have no idea what’s going on with this poster. Yikes.

Everybody’s Fine opens December 4th.

Whip It Movie Review

Whip It stars Ellen Page as teenager Bliss Cavender who, as the movie opens, is competing in a Miss Bluebonnet beauty pageant. It is something that her mother (Marcia Gay Harden) wants her to do, but beneath the gown lies a girl who is trying to break free. Later, while shopping with her mother, a group of roller derby players skates by, handing out flyers for an upcoming event. Bliss grabs a flyer and later secretly heads to nearby Austin with her best friend Pash (Alia Shawkat) to check out the action. Soon, Bliss is breaking out her own pair of skates and trying out for the league. When she makes the cut, she must find time not only to play, but to also spend time with a musician named Oliver (Landon Pigg) who she met at a game. Bliss takes the name “Babe Ruthless” (all the players make up names the play under) and becomes a league sensation. But just when things are going well and it seems that our heroine has finally found her own personal bliss, it’s only a matter of time before things begin to unravel. Read more

A new poster for Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, Whip It, has come across our hands. Based on the Shauna Cross book, Derby Girl, the movie will star Ellen Page as Bliss Cavendar, a rebellious Texas teen who joins a roller derby league in Austin, Texas to spice up her otherwise boring small-town life.

The movie will also star Barrymore, Juliette Lewis, Marcia Gay Harden, Kristen Wiig, Jimmy Fallon, Daniel Stern and Eve.

Whip It will be showing in September at the Toronto International Film Festival so hopefully we’ll be able to give you some feedback at that time. It will be in theatres on October 9th.

Check out the poster below. I wonder why it says “Whip It” twice on the poster? Doesn’t seem to make sense.
