TIFF Movie Review: Jennifer’s Body

Jennifer’s Body stars Megan Fox as Jennifer and Amanda Seyfried as her best friend Needy (short for Anita). The two have been BFFs since childhood (they have matching charm necklaces to prove it) despite the fact that at first glance they might not look like the kind of girls who would have anything to do with the other. Jennifer is gorgeous and popular while Needy is frumpy and bookish. One night, Jennifer invites Needy to see a visiting band at the local club. Actually, it’s a dumpy roadside bar which is as close to a club as their little town of Devil’s Kettle will ever see. When Jennifer heads to get a drink, Needy overhears the band’s lead singer Nikolai (Adam Brody) talking about Jennifer in a less-than-favourable light. She tries to intervene but Jennifer wants to stick around, so they do. Things go south when the bar catches fire and most of the patrons are burned alive. Jennifer and Needy miraculously escape and are met in the parking lot by Nikolai who takes Jennifer back to the band’s van and drives away. A few hours later, Jennifer shows up at Needy’s house covered in blood. And that’s just the beginning. Read more
TIFF Day 1: Jennifer’s Body

Just got out of a screening of Jennifer’s Body at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival. I don’t have time to do a full blown review right now (quickly on my way to a screening of The Informant) but I wanted to give a quick update.
The movie stars Megan Fox as Jennifer and Amanda Seyfried as her best friend Needy (short for Anita). The two head out to a “club” one night to check out the band Low Shoulder (with lead singer Adam Brody) but things quickly deteriorate from there when Jennifer is abducted by the band who believes she’s a virgin. (Ha!) Jennifer shows up a few hours later and something is different. Soon, boys in their small little town of Devil’s Kettle begin showing up dead.
For what it was, the movie was pretty good. I thought we’d really get a look at just how talented Megan Fox is, since this is her first starring role, but the movie didn’t really showcase much. She was fine, for what the movie demanded, but let’s not kid ourselves. This movie isn’t going to win any Oscars. Amanda Seyfried, on the other hand, really stood out for me. I’d seen her before in Mamma Mia!, but this movie was a real departure and she held her own against Fox. (Although you’d probably have to to more than just give her glasses and frumpy hair to convince me that she’s not worthy of being in the same league as Fox.) It’s a horror movie set in a high school with a couple of beautiful girls in the lead roles, so you pretty much get what you expect. There were a couple of gory parts, but it’s all in good fun. I found the movie dragged a bit in the latter part, but it wrapped up nicely and ended differently from what I expected. Overall, a fun afternoon at the movies.
A couple of things to watch out for. Writer Diablo Cody makes the briefest of brief cameos in the early going and J.K. Simmons had me “hooked” as one of the high school teachers. Also, don’t go into this movie expecting to see Jennifer’s “body”. Otherwise you’ll come away disappointed.
I’ll be back later today with my thoughts on The Informant and some photos from a couple of red carpets.
Megan Fox Blackout Day – Jennifer’s Body Pics
A handful of websites have decided that today, August 4th, has been declared a Megan Fox Blackout Day in protest of the endless number of news articles, posters and pictures that are chronicled on a daily basis about the Hollywood starlet.
I have decided to blackout the Megan Fox Blackout Day and post a handful of new pictures from her upcoming movie, Jennifer’s Body, which will be in theatres on September 18th.

Jennifer’s Body Trailer With Intro By Megan Fox
A second trailer for Jennifer’s Body is now online – the “green band” trailer – with less blood, no swearing and no overt sexual remarks. More importantly, it features an introduction from the lady of the hour, Megan Fox. I have to say, I’m pretty impressed with what I’ve seen so far from this movie. Looks like it could be pretty interesting and there might even be a lesbian kiss involved. We should also get to see if Fox has any acting chops or if she’s just a beautiful face slapped onto an amazing body. Either scenario works for me. If you want to see the “R” rated trailer click here. Jennifer’s Body will be in theatres on September 18th.
Red Band Trailer: Jennifer’s Body

If you haven’t gotten enough Megan Fox since the release of Transformers 2, you’re about to get a whole lot more. ShockTillYouDrop.com has the newly released Red Band trailer for Jennifer’s Body. (Unfortunately, if you think you’re getting anything more of Jennifer’s body than what you see above, you’re sadly mistaken.)
In the movie, Fox plays a high school cheerleader who becomes possessed by a demon and begins feeding off the boys in her town. Amanda Seyfried stars as her best friend. Johnny Simmons and Adam Brody also star. Continue reading to check out the video. Read more

Karyn Kusama Directing Jennifer’s Body
Karyn Kusama is in negotiations to direct Jennifer’s Body written by Diablo Cody (Juno).
The movie stars Megan Fox (Transformers) as a cheerleader who starts feeding off the boys in a Minnesota farming town. Her “plain Jane” best friend must take drastic measures to protect their town from the seductive teenager. Jason Reitman, who directed Juno, will serve as producer on the project. Production will begin in March in Vancouver.
Kusama’s credits include Girlfight starring Michelle Rodriguez and Aeon Flux starring Charlize Theron.
Megan Fox in Jennifer’s Body
Megan Fox is in negotiations to star in Jennifer’s Body for Fox Atomic.
The movie, described as a comedic supernatural thriller, follows a cheerleader with a perfect life who becomes the girl from hell when she gets possessed and begins killing boys in a small town. Her best friend must then find a way to stop her. The movie was written by Diablo Cody who wrote Fox Searchlight’s upcoming Juno.
Fox starred this summer with Shia LaBeouf in Transformers. She next appears in How to Lose Friends and Alienate People with Simon Pegg and Jeff Bridges. I’ll also take this time to plug Juno (great flick!!) which is scheduled for release in December.
