worldwarrobot Super-producer and Hollywood hockey player Jerry Bruckheimer was busy at last week’s Comic-Con in San Diego. Variety.com is reporting that he closed a deal for the rights to the graphic novel “World War Robot” from IDW Publishing. The story revolves around small band of humans who battle robot on Earth, the Moon and Mars in order to avoid the end of humanity. The story was written by Ashley Wood. Sounds like another big-budget movie that Bruckheimer can add to his legacy.

Last week, while promoting James Cameron’s Avatar at Comic-Con, Sigourney Weaver appeared on the red carpet and was asked about her involvment in Ghostbusters 3. Weaver had this to say:

Sigourney: All I said was, look guys, if there is a Ghostbusting part for Dana’s son Oscar, that’s who I would like…

MovieWeb: That’s what you want, you don’t want to be in it yourself?

Sigourney: That’s alright, no…leave it to them.

Sounds like a resounding “no” to me. Weaver’s name is listed as a cast member on the IMDB page for Ghostbusters 3 but it looks like Dana Barrett will not make a return. It has been rumoured that most of the original cast would return for the third movie.

Check out the video below for Weaver’s definitive answer.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who is more affectionately known as Mr. Eko from “Lost”, has revealed that he is in talks with Marvel Comics to play The Black Panther in a big-screen adaptation of the comic book. The revelation was made during an interview with MTV at this weekend’s Comic-Con in San Diego.

Created by Stan Lee, The Black Panther came to New York City from the fictional African nation of Wakanda. He has fought alongside The Fantastic Four, The Avengers and Captain America. He has helped his homeland when it was on the brink of civil war and also returned to America to fight the Klu Klux Klan.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will next be seen in G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra.

Another announcement made at Comic-Con last week – Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown will be the voices for the upcoming animated movie based on the comic book series The Goon. The announcement was made during an entertaining panel that featured series creator Eric Powell. The upcoming movie will be produced by David Fincher. There’s no word yet on who will direct. What and who is The Goon you may ask? Here is what I was able to grab from Wikipedia:

The story is about the adventures of the Goon, a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for the feared mobster Labrazio. The Goon (and his sidekick Franky) often get tied up in other machinations, often in relation to the evil zombie gangs under the command of the Nameless Zombie Priest.

The series has a distinctly paranormal slant, with the average story concerning ghosts, ghouls, skunk-apes with an unnatural hunger for pie, extra-dimensional aliens, and mad scientists.

Clancy Brown will voice The Goon and Giamatti will be Franky. Animated footage was presented at the panel with both men supplying their voices to the characters.

The movie is slated for a 2010 release.

Smith’s Dicks Might Get Cut

Kevin Smith appeared yesterday at Comic-Con 2009 to promote his upcoming movie, A Couple of Dicks, and to take some questions from the fans at the show. During the questioning, he revealed that there’s a problem with the word “dicks” in the title. It seems like Warner Bros. did some research and discovered that although FOX and TBS had no problem with the title, CBS, NBC and ABC all said they would not air advertising before 9 pm for a movie with that word in the title. This is a huge problem for Smith, who feels there is a big advertising opportunity for this type of movie during sports telecasts. As he puts it, “we’re all still paying for Janet Jackson’s tit”.

This is not the first time Smith has had a problem with a movie title. Last year’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno was subject to much controversy and some ads for the movie ran with the title shortened to “Zak and Miri”. I guess some backroom brainstorming will have to happen to figure out what to do with A Couple of Dicks. It doesn’t seem fair to me. Nothing was done about Jackass. There’s a movie coming out called Kick-Ass. The title Die Hard seemed okay. So did Free Willy. We’ll have to wait with baited breath to see what happens to Dicks.

A Couple of Dicks will be in theatres on February 26, 2010. Check out the video below from Comic-Con to see Kevin Smith talking about his movie and making fun of some nerd.

Zombie Won’t Make Halloween 3

robzombie While at Comic-Con this weekend promoting his next movie, director Rob Zombie made it quite clear that he will not direct another Halloween movie. In an interview with MTVMoviesBlog, the director of such cult hits as House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, Halloween and the upcoming Halloween II had this to say when asked about a third Halloween movie:

No. I could not see that in any shape, way or form. Never. If I told you [why], you wouldn’t believe me.

Sounds to me like there’s a story there to be told.

I have to admit, I’m not a fan of Zombie’s work. Well, I do like that song he does with Howard Stern that plays at the beginning of The Howard Stern Show each morning, but that’s about it. And I absolutely love the original Halloween movies but his version of it just didn’t do it for me. With that being said, I’ll definitely be seeing Halloween II and for now, will remain optimistic that I’ll like it.

Halloween II will be in theatres on August 28th.

Toy Story 3 Adds Michael Keaton

michael_keaton Today at Comic-Con it was revealed that Michael Keaton will voice Barbie’s long-time boyfriend, Ken, in next summer’s Toy Story 3. Director Lee Unkrich had this to say about the role:

Barbie is back, and this time she plays a bigger role. So naturally we had to bring in her companion Ken this time. And we can announce today that he’s voiced by Michael Keaton. He worked with us on Cars, where he voiced the bad guy, and he was a blast to work with so we invited him back as Ken.

I wonder what Barbie’s bigger role will be? Maybe she will be cheating with Woody or Buzz. I’m sure she’d prefer Woody.

Some other voices that will be heard in Toy Story 3 will include Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Ned Beatty and voice-over superstar John Ratzenberger. It will be in theatres on June 18, 2010.
