A Date With Tad Hamilton! Review |
|
Tad Hamilton (Josh Duhamel) is one of
Hollywood's biggest heart-throbs, but he's having trouble landing roles
lately because of his off screen bad-boy image. To have him seen again
in some positive light, Tad's handlers cook up a "Win A Date With
Tad Hamilton" contest, hoping that being photographed on a date
with some star struck girl will get him back in everyone's good graces.
The winner of the contest turns out to be Rosalee Futch (Kate Bosworth).
Rosalee is a wholesome, simple and innocent girl from West Virginia,
working at the local Piggly Wiggly grocery chain with her best friends
Cathy and Pete (Ginnifer Goodwin & Topher Grace). Basically, the
type of girl you'd never find in Hollywood. In fact, Tad gets so taken
with her after their date that he moves to West Virginia to be with
Rosalee. This is bad for Pete, who was planning on revealing his
lifelong love for Rosalee before he moves off to college. The love
triangle is set...will Rosalee go with her Hollywood crush Tad or her
best friend Pete?
Although I am typically not a fan of the romantic comedy genre, I did
enjoy 'Win A Date With Tad Hamilton!'. It had some good laughs in it.
There were funny bits with Rosalee's dad trying to "talk shop"
with Tad and with Tad being hit on by a creepy hotel clerk when he went
to West Virginia. I really enjoyed both Duhamel's and Bosworth's
performances (Of course, it doesn't hurt that she's quite easy on the
eyes). That's not to say the movie was without flaws. I thought the
Cathy character was way under-used. Also, I didn't care much for Nathan
Lane and Sean Hayes as Tad's manager and agent. They just seemed to
excessive and over-the-top.
Actually, when I first left the theatre, my biggest problem with the
movie was Pete. I just didn't really feel for him as the underdog
because he come off as a sarcastic jerk. However, after thinking about
it on the drive home, I could understand him being like that. Hell, we
all trash people if someone else says they like them. If a girl tells me
she likes Ben Affleck, then I would typically say "Sure, if you're
into someone who couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag". Or
if I tell a girl that Britney Spears is hot, I'll probably get "Oh,
those are so fake!!". After considering it like that, then yeah, I
do see thing from Pete's perspective.
'Win A Date With Tad Hamilton!' is a decent movie. It's something you
can take your date to, knowing the girls will find it cute and the guys
will get a few laughs out of it.
