- The Sum Of All Fears |

We finally get a new Jack Ryan movie. It's
about time. What's this? A new Ryan? Uh oh.
To be fair, Ben Affleck (the new young Jack Ryan) does a brilliant job
... of playing a smart ass Ben Affleck. Maybe it was the "year
one" type story, or perhaps he's stuck in his movie typecast, but
Affleck just didn't seem clever enough to keep true to this character.
Luckily, this film wasn't just about a sleuthing Jack Ryan. A big part
dealt with a been-there-done-that nuclear showdown. While it's been
portrayed better, the one here certainly didn't detract from the movie.
In fact, with all the trashing I've done, this really wasn't a bad
movie. It had a bit of everything, mystery, action sequences, a
spectacular disaster scene, a touch of humor and plenty of dialog driven
tension. And above all else, it was entertaining.
In the end, my expectations of a good movie were met - just not my
expectations of a great Jack Ryan movie.

- 7/10
