| Dumb
and Dumberer Movie Review |
|
I never thought dumberer was a word. After
seeing this movie, I have decided to add it to my vocabulary. Dumb and
Dumberer is bad and baderer.
The story revolves around the origins of the Harry and Lloyd friendship.
The two dim-wits bump into each other on the way to school, become
friends and are eventually tricked into forming a bogus special
education class so the school's principal (played by Eugene Levy) can
steal the grant money that the school will receive for having this
class. Of course, along the way, there are many very dumberer gags -
brain freezes, a ridiculous game of tag, a bathroom full of brown stuff,
a hot-tub scene with lesbians kissing, an underwater fart, more brown
stuff all over a car. Ha ha ha.
Knowing full-well that going to a movie called Dumb and Dumberer, one
should not expect cinema at its finest, you would at least expect a
mildly humourous follow-up to the original smash comedy. Instead, what
we were given was closer to pure torture. Yeah, I have to admit I
chuckled a few times. But overall, this movie was as baderer and as
dumberer as it gets. Not even Mimi Rogers cleavage could save this
movie. The two leads in the movie, Eric Christian Olsen and Derek
Richardson, although valiant in their efforts to recreate Jim Carrey and
Jeff Daniel's Harry and Lloyd, fail miserably. The Jim Carrey clone
looks like the original and a few times his actions resemble him but
that is about where it ends. They both lack the charisma and the pure
comedic genius that existed in the original. Even as a stand-alone
movie, not comparing it to the original, this movie is a disaster.
And before you accuse me of being an cranky old fart with no sense of
humour, there were two young punks sitting beside me who I did not hear
laugh the entire movie. They were cracking themselves up before the
movie started with their immature jokes but their laughing ended there.
For long stretches during the movie, you really could have heard a pin
drop in the theatre. It was that dumberer. You know you are in trouble
when two appearances by Bob Saget might have been two of the funniest
moments in the entire movie. Even the outtakes at the end of the movie
were so terrible, it was like one final slap in the face to the millions
of fans of Dumb and Dumber.
I warn you now, steer clear of this movie. Like Harry and Lloyd after
they drank their slurpees really fast, you might just end up with brain
freeze. I know I am still thawing out and it really is painful.
