Director Luke Greenfield ("The Girl Next Door") is directing the tentatively titled "Soul Mates" for Columbia Pictures, about a guy and a girl who fall in love when they're 16 and promise to end up together, but life and timing keep them apart.
The film is based on a treatment by Greenfield and Courtney Booth, who were childhood sweethearts.
"It's a subject that I know all too well," Greenfield said, adding that he and Booth, now in their early 30s, recently "decided to let each other go."
Finding a writer is the next step. "We're looking for someone who can write those tumultuous, emotional moments, and have a great balance of the drama and the comedy," he said.
Next up for Greenfield are "Big Brother" and "Destiny". He also plans to direct "The Holiday Club" at Fox.
