Bryce Dallas Howard, who made her bigscreen debut starring for M. Night Shyamalan in "The Village", will play the title role in Warner Independent Pictures historical drama "Mary Queen of Scots".
Written by Jimmy McGovern ("Priest"), the film will chronicle the rise to power of the Catholic queen.
WIP selected Howard and the negotiations are close to being completed. The studio is about to hire a director and will shoot the film beginning in March in Europe.
Howard takes the crown after replacing Nicole Kidman as Grace in Danish director Lars von Trier's "Manderlay", the follow-up to "Dogville". Howard was just named to receive the Rising Star Award at the upcoming Palm Springs Film Festival.
