Four Christmases topped the box office this weekend with an estimated $31.6 million. The comedy stars Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn as a couple who must reluctantly visit each of their parents and their new spouses for the holidays when their travel plans get canceled. The movie earned $46.7 million over the 5-day Thanksgiving holiday.
Finishing in 2nd was Disney's animated adventure Bolt with $26.5 million. Featuring the voices of Miley Cyrus and John Travolta, the movie actually earned more this weekend than it did last weekend when it opened with $26.2 million. (I can't remember the last time I saw that happen for a wide release?!)
Dropping to 3rd was the teen vampire romance Twilight which added another $26.3 million (a 62% drop), bringing its 2-week total to nearly $120 million. The movie stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
In 4th place was the Bond adventure Quantum of Solace which earned $19.5 million. After 3 weekends of release, the movie has earned $142 million domestically.
Rounding out the top five films was the new release Australia which opened with $14.8 million. The movie, directed by Baz Luhrmann, stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.
Other new releases to open in the top 10 films include Transporter 3 starring Jason Statham which earned $12.3 million and Milk which opened at only 36 locations but still managed to accumulate $1.8 million -- more than $38,000 per location.
Next weekend's new releases include Punisher: War Zone, Nobel Son and Cadillac Records. Ron Howard's Frost/Nixon also opens in very limited release.
