Where the Truth Lies (Unrated Theatrical Edition)
(Sony Pictures Home Entertainment)

The Movie The Extras Reviewed by

Where the Truth Lies tells the story of the comedy team of Lanny Morris (Kevin Bacon) and Vince Collins (Colin Firth) and what happened after one fateful night when a woman was found dead in their hotel room. Forced to break up and forever hide what really happened, the movie picks up 15 years later and follows reporter Karen O'Connor (Alison Lohman) who is doing a piece on the two and is trying to uncover "where the truth lies".

There was a big commotion made when this movie was released and I can't figure out why. I've seen movies that had a lot riskier content (not the x-rated kind), but this movie was pretty much forced to be released "unrated" over a few seconds of footage that was really quite tame. Hell, I could search the internet for 5 seconds and find something a lot worse than anything shown here.

Special features on this DVD include a very brief making of featurette which is pretty much just 5 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage sewn together and put to music without any narration and about 10 minutes of deleted scenes (without commentary) which didn't make much difference to the finished movie.

I enjoyed this movie. It was well written, well directed and well acted. It kept me guessing up until the end as to what the truth actually was and the final payoff was worth it. I even watched a second time just to catch anything I might've missed. However, as I said, some of the content here is a bit risque. It's not exactly the kind of movie you'd sit around and watch with your mother but, if you can stomach a little graphic nudity, this movie is certainly worth a look.
