Had the pleasure tonight of catching an early screening of a movie called "Things We Lost In The Fire". I didn't know a whole lot about this movie. Never saw the trailer, never saw a commercial, didn't read too much about it. Just a couple of small tidbits here and there and also that it starred Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro.

I think for the sake of anyone planning to see this movie I'm not going to discuss any plot details. All I'll say is if you do go see "Things We Lost...", just sit back and enjoy one of the finest movies with some of the finest acting that you will see this year. This movie was just fabulous, in my opinion. It's kind of like a cross between American Beauty, Traffic and The Notebook. Sounds like an odd combination but it works. The movie has a bit of everything - a love story, personal drama, a few laughs, some moments that are very uncomfortable to watch and even a few tears. The characters are endearing. The story is riveting. And if Benicio Del Toro doesn't get nominated for an Oscar, I'll eat my dirty shorts. He is simply fabulous, as is Halle Berry for that matter. For someone who puts out complete stinkers here and there (I'm talking Perfect Strangers amongst others), this lady certainly has her share of great moments. "Things We Lost In The Fire" is one of those moments for Halle. And Benicio. And everyone else involved in this movie. Hell, even the two little kids were adorable.

"Things We Lost In The Fire" is one of those movies where you will sit down and not even notice the time. You won't want the movie to end. And when it does you will want a sequel. Unfortunately there will never be one. Instead, "30 Days of Night" will get a sequel. There will be more "Saw" movies. And more "Transformers" movies. We will never know what happened to Jerry. I'd much rather know where Jerry will end up in five years before I find out what happens to Optimus Prime or Jigsaw. I guess we'll just have to leave it up to the old imagination.
