In "The Rocker", Rainn Wilson stars as a cat named Fish, the former drummer of one of the world's greatest rock bands, Vesuvius. Unfortunately for Fish, he was kicked out of the band right before they made it big and he hasn't been able to get his life back on track since then. Most recently, Fish has been dumped by his girlfriend, he lost his job as a customer service representative at a call centre and he has now moved into the attic of his sister's house. But that's when things seem to take a bit of a turn for the better for Fish, when he discovers that his nephew's rock band, A.D.D., is looking for a drummer for their gig at the high school prom. After rocking it out at the prom, Fish takes the kids under his wing while he tries to fulfill his and their dream of becoming the next big thing in the world of rock and roll.

The one thing I'll say about "The Rocker" is that it is one of those movies that truly came out of nowhere and surprised the hell out of me. It really was quite an entertaining movie, with many laugh-out-loud moments, a decent story, good characters and surprisingly cool music. Rainn Wilson does an excellent job in his first starring role in a major Hollywood film, despite the fact that he displays one of the most horrid asses I have seen on the big screen since seeing Asmat half-naked in Borat. The guy who plays the band's manager is simply hilarious and the rest of the supporting cast are all quite good in their respective roles.

I didn't see too much of this movie when I saw the first couple of trailers but for me, "The Rocker" is now one of the funnier, good-hearted movies I've seen this year, certainly better than two other much publicized comedies, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "You Don't Mess With The Zohan". I'm not sure if the fact that Rainn Wilson was at the screening I attended helped matters or not or made me like the movie more but he really seemed like a cool, down-to-earth guy. Anyone who was seen Wilson in "The Office" knows how funny this guy can be and if you haven't seen "The Office" yet, I suggest you immediately watch the first four seasons because it is a brilliant show.

As for "The Rocker", if you're just looking for a relaxing, easy-going time at the theater that will leave a smile on your face when the credits start rolling, then I suggest you check this movie out. I'm sure "The Rocker" won't go down in the history books as the greatest comedy ever made but as least in 2008, it's one of the funner times I have personally had at a theatre.
