The Movie The Extras Reviewed by
9/10 5/10 Phil

Ahhh. The first DVD edition of last Christmas's big hit. The draw, more so than the dazzling effects and the epic plot, was the immense tension which ran throughout the film. With an onslaught both visually as well as aurally, one just couldn't help but focus all nervous attention when cued to do so. This however worked comparatively against the movie at times, for at moments without any distress, the narrative took over and things became alarmingly slow. Luckily, this only happened a few times since most of it was exceedingly suspenseful. As a whole, it was highly enjoyable and sure to entertain.

In a two disc set, the first carried the movie itself while the second held all the supplements. These extras included three trailers, six TV spots, a behind-the-scenes preview of the next movie, a preview of the Special Extended DVD Edition, a look at a video game, and an Enya music video. There were also three decent length featurettes and fifteen short ones, all on the making of the film. While each was respectable, bear in mind that there were plenty of times when overlapping information was presented. As for a commentary track, there was none to be found.

Heavy on action and intensity, this film started off the series with grandeur.
