In Shadowboxer Cuba Gooding Jr. plays Mikey, a contract killer in business with his stepmother Rose (Helen Mirren). She and Mikey do brutally efficient work together, but reserve a surprising tenderness for each other. Since the death of Mikey's father, Rose has been his protector. Now that she has been diagnosed with cancer, it has affected both her nurturing instinct and her trigger finger.
