I first saw this one at the theater and although there aren't a lot of movies out there that I'll recommend to younger children, this is one of them.
In Pooh's Heffalump Movie, our friends in the Hundred Acre Wood are woken one day by strange sounds. After they all run to Rabbit to find out what the mystery is, they discover the sounds are coming from Heffalump Hollow. They're all terrified of the horrible Heffalumps living in the woods (although they've never seen one) and decide to set out and catch one for themselves. Roo is anxious to go along for the adventure, but since he's too young, he's told to stay home. However, when he heads out on his own, he discovers there's a lot more to Heffalumps than anybody knows, and nothing about them is all that terrifying.
Bonus features on this DVD include Music Time with Disney's Song Selection where you can skip to different parts of the movie and listen to the various songs, Game Time with a set-top 'Hide N Seek with Roo and Lumpy' game and finally Backstage Disney with a featurette looking at our new Heffalump friend. There's also a sneak peek at Lumpy's next adventure, "Pooh's Heffalump Halloween".
Too many movies today you have to worry about whether they're appropriate for young children. (I still can't believe there are 4 year olds out there who's parents would let them watch The Incredibles!? But that's a story for another day.) Pooh is almost always a safe bet - and I would have no problem recommending this story for a good night of family entertainment.
