Must Love Dogs is pretty much your typical 21st Century romantic comedy where Miss Right (this time played by Diane Lane) meets Mr. Wrong (Dermot Mulroney) and Mr. Right (John Cusack). Of course, she thinks Mr. Wrong is actually Mr. Right and Mr. Right is Mr. Wrong and after a bunch of crazy run-ins, dates, misunderstandings and an unannounced "drop-in", she finally realizes that her Mr. Wrong is actually Mr. Right and the man she thought was Mr. Right is actually Mr. Wrong. If this sounds confusing, see the movie and you will know exactly what I mean. The movie also stars Christopher Plummer as Sarah's (Diane Lane) dad and Stockard Channing as her sister Dolly.

As I said earlier, Must Love Dogs is your standard summer romantic comedy, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The movie really has no surprises, but it's light-hearted, it's got a handful of laughs, it's got likeable characters and if you really pay attention, you get to see Diane Lane's nipple for one or two seconds and let me tell you, that one or two seconds is heaven. She really has to be one of the hottest older women on the entire planet, which really makes me question the legitimacy of a woman like that struggling to find a date.

Overall, Must Love Dogs is a decent summer "chick flick", perhaps a bit more suited to an older crowd (I'm not too sure teenagers would be interested in seeing John Cusack running around after Diane Lane). It may not be the summers best chick flick (not to sound gay, but I really liked that Hilary Duff/Heather Locklear movie more) but it's a decent movie for the guys to bring their lady friends without fear of wanting to slit your wrists halfway through the movie. It may not be the most original movie I have ever seen but I can assure you, there are worse ways to spend a Friday night than having to sit through Must Love Dogs. If you don't believe me, just let me know and I will email you everything I have done for the last eight Friday nights. You will find yourself running to the theatre to see this movie.
