The Movie The Extras Reviewed by
7.5/10 6.5/10 Liam

Meet the Fockers was a box office smash - and rightly so. I saw this one in theaters and laughed my ass off. I didn't find it as good a film as the first movie, but it certainly was just as funny.

The movie tells the continuing story of Gaylord "Greg" Focker (Ben Stiller) and his comical misadventures trying to impress his soon-to-be father-in-law Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro). Also along for the ride is the newest addition to the Byrnes circle of trust, Jack's grandson Little Jack. In this edition, as the title suggests, we meet the Fockers, meet Greg's parents, Bernie and Roz (Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand).

There are a number of special features on this DVD. First, we find an audio commentary by director Jay Roach with producer John Poll. This commentary really could've used Ben Stiller to inject some life into it. For such a funny movie, this commentary was awfully dull.

Featurettes on this disc include Inside the Litter Box: Behind the Scenes with Jinx the Cat which is a very un-funny look at Jinx on the set of the movie, The Manary Gland which looks at creating the fake boob used to breastfeed Little Jack, Fockers' Family Portrait featuring interviews with Hoffman, Streisand and Stiller about their respective characters, The Adventures of a Baby Wrangler which looks at the person on the set responsible for the baby twins playing Little Jack and finally Matt Lauer Meets the Fockers which, obviously, is an interview by Matt Lauer with the stars of the movie.

The DVD also features a series outtakes and deleted scenes. Some are funny and some are not. There's also the option of watching the movie with the deleted scenes inserted into the film. I wasn't too impressed with this feature as the transition from the movie to the deleted materials isn't as seamless as perhaps it could've been. I turned this feature off almost immediately as it was just annoying.

More features include a promo spot for the NBC comedy "Scrubs" and your standard Cast and Filmmakers feature.

As I said earlier, the movie is as funny as the original, but not necessarily as good. It seems too much time is spent delivering the jokes and not enough time is spent developing a decent story. Of course, if all you want is a good laugh, this movie will satisfy.
