Meet the Fockers is the follow-up to the highly successful Meet the Parents. The movie features the return of Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro) and his favourite son-in-law, Gaylord "Greg" Focker (Ben Stiller), as well as Greg's wife Pam (Teri Polo) and her mother Dina (Blythe Danner). This time around, Jack loads the gang into his state-of-the-art motor home and heads to Florida to meet mother Focker (Barbara Streisand), dad Focker (Dustin Hoffman) and dog Focker (the dog). Joining them on the trip is Jack's adorable grandson, Little Jack. Unfortunately, Big Jack's uptight and organized lifestyle is not in sync with the rather unorthodox Focker family and as expected, all hell breaks loose, especially as the Focker family reveals secrets from Greg's past.

For the first 30 minutes or so of Meet the Fockers, I laughed my ass off, as I am pretty sure the entire theatre was doing. The movie was pretty damn funny but once the gang hit the road and headed to Florida, the movie, although littered with funny moments, seemed to lose a bit of steam. Sure there continued to be plenty of laugh-out-loud moments but not nearly as many as we witnessed at the beginning of the movie. I found many of the "Little Jack" jokes to be repetitive. And too many jokes just missed the mark (ie. the flying foreskin). Dustin Hoffman was okay but not consistently hilarious. Streisand, surprisingly, was quite good. I am not even a big fan of hers (long story but it dates back to her "The Mirror Has Two Faces" days) but she was absolutely perfect for her role in this movie and quite funny to boot. De Niro and Stiller were as good as could be expected I suppose. Each had their moments where they shone but neither stole the show. Not even Focking close.

Overall, I found Meet the Fockers focking hilarious for about 30 minutes. Then there were intermittent moments of hilarity (okay, maybe I laughed at the foreskin bit) but unfortunately they were often few and far between. It's a lot of the same stuff from the first movie - Greg's a bit of a bumbling fool with a really bad last name, Jack is an uptight prick and the Byrnes women are more or less filler. Enter Bernie (Hoffman) and Roz (Streisand) Focker and sure, there are a few more laughs but nothing that will go down in movie history as must see moments. In fact, the whole "fake boob" bit really made me feel uncomfortable, for some reason. And watching Little Jack and his vulgar hand signals and then hearing him use obscenities at one point in the movie wasn't very enjoyable either. Just weird, weird stuff. But still worth a few laughs. Just not as many as you may focking think.
