John Tucker Must Die (Sweet Revenge Edition)
(Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment)

The Movie The Extras Reviewed by

John Tucker Must Die stars Jesse Metcalfe (best known for TV's "Desperate Housewives") as the titular John Tucker who, after screwing over a number of hot girls, must die (as the title would suggest).

The aforementioned "hot girls" include Arielle Kebbel as bookish but still cute Carrie, Sophia Bush as "experienced" Beth and Ashanti as cheerleader Heather. When they discover that John Tucker has been dating them all, they enlist school newcomer Kate (Brittany Snow) to seduce Mr. Tucker so that they can cause him various forms of embarrassment and make him un-dateable. However, the plan backfires a) when John Tucker proves to be un-embarrassable and b) when Kate actually begins to fall for him. However, the girls still have lots of fun along the way and learn a lesson that most girls who aren't so hot learned a lot earlier -- that men are pigs.

Part of me didn't expect to enjoy this movie, but another part of me knew that I would. Hey, I'm a sucker for teen comedies. As much as I was rooting for John Tucker (what self-respecting guy wouldn't!!), I also found myself rooting for the girls. That I was rooting for the girls to show a little more skin was inconsequential. Unfortunately, the "Sweet Revenge Edition" of the movie, which promises an extended cut of the film that "you couldn't see in theaters" didn't really live up to my expectations.

Special features on this DVD include a commentary by director Betty Thomas and editor Mattew Friedman which is available on both the Full Screen and Widescreen sides of the disc. Widescreen-only features include a "Grrrl Power" featurette which focuses on the female stars, a "Cutting Class with Jesse Metcalfe which give our male star a little spotlight and a "Kodiak Yearbook" feature which talks to the stars about their high school experiences. Full Screen-only features include some deleted scenes, an "On the Rebound" feature which looks at some of the basketball highlights from the film, a fun video "Dating Quiz", a music video, a promo spot for the film's soundtrack and a theatrical trailer. Overall, there's enough here to satisfy.

If you enjoyed film's like "Mean Girls" or "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen", this movie should be right up your alley. Sure, there's no Lindsay Lohan -- but that's probably a good thing.
