In Her Shoes

The Movie The Extras Reviewed by

In Her Shoes stars Toni Collette and Cameron Diaz as sisters who are torn apart by the fact that one of them is a hot piece of ass and the other is Toni Collette. (In all fairness, there aren't too many people who can compare to Cameron Diaz.) So Collette plays Rose, an attorney who is pretty much unlucky in love and Diaz plays Maggie, a free spirit who mooches off of whomever she can to get whatever she wants. When she shows up drunk one night at Rose's place, Rose reluctantly takes her in. She tries to help her get a job and make a life for herself but Maggie isn't exactly willing to accept help. When things go sour between the two, a fight erupts and Maggie heads south to mooch off her newly-discovered grandmother (Shirley MacLaine). Eventually, the sisters must learn to get past their differences and learn what it's like to live in the other's shoes.

I know I crack wise about how hot Cameron Diaz is, but she's actually quite good here. And Toni Collette is great, although I'm not a big fan of her teeth. They're actually quite frightening! Shirley MacLaine was good but to be honest she just seemed to be playing the same grandmotherly role she's played in a few previous movies. Finally, director Curtis Hanson. I'm a fan, so pretty much anything the guy does is good enough in my books.

Special features on this DVD include a featurette looking at the film's characters titled "The People In The Shoes", another featurette focusing on the film's older characters titled "A Retirement Community for Acting Seniors" and finally "From Death Row to the Red Carpet: The Casting of Honeybun" which looks at casting the dog in the movie.

Although it's a total chick flick, I enjoyed this movie. Besides the Cameron Diaz bikini scenes, it's not exactly the type of movie you're going to sit around with the guys and watch, but if you're in the mood to sit through something with a girlfriend or your mother, it's well worth checking out.
