Gridiron Gang stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Sean Porter, a juvenile camp officer for hardcore teenage felons. He sees the same kids keep coming back (75% end up back in prison) or ending up dead. He sees kids who lack discipline, who can't be part of a team and who can't accept criticism. He decides there is one activity that will help with all of these issues – football.

By organizing a prison football team, he believes the kids will have an outlet for their violence that will help to instill self-respect and confidence. After cutting through the red tape of bosses who don't support him and high schools that won't play his team, Porter must tackle his most difficult task – making his team believe they are winners, despite a society that has seen them as losers all their lives.

I really liked Gridiron Gang. It combined 2 elements that always sway me towards a movie – a feel-good storyline and a sports storyline. Topping all this off was the performance of The Rock. He seems very natural in the role, almost as if he's not playing a character at all. This role is perfect for him, as he evens deftly handles a side plot of his mom dying of cancer.

Gridiron Gang sends a powerful message that hard work and commitment can change the lives of the most hopeless people in our society. The fact that this movie was based on a true story makes that message reverberate even more. Make sure you stay when the credits start to role – clips of the real Sean Porter are shown and it's surprising how much the movie is true to real life.
