The Movie The Extras Reviewed by
6/10 4/10 Liam

I love Drew Barrymore and the Boston Red Sox. But I hate Jimmy Fallon and the fact that the night the Sox won, it was spoiled by the filming of this movie. So, the question was, which side of the fence would I be on with this movie?

Fever Pitch tells the story of a lifelong Sox fan named Ben (Jimmy Fallon) who, during the off-season meets Lindsey (Drew Barrymore). They "hit" it off, but Lindsey is thrown a "curve ball" when she doesn't realize the extent of Ben's love for the Sox. But, she doesn't "balk" and instead chooses to "step up to the plate" and put up with the over-zealous fan in him. But can it last? Will they hit a "home run" together or will they both "strike out"? (These baseball analogies aren't as easy as they look folks!)

So, did I like the movie? The easy answer would be to say that I liked Drew Barrymore, I didn't really like Jimmy Fallon and I liked the Red Sox angle but I didn't like the whole Jimmy and Drew on the field during the Sox' celebration thing. Actually, Jimmy Fallon wasn't nearly as bad as he's been in the past. Actually, the only movie I've ever seen him star in was Taxi, but that was enough to warrant my harsh reaction to ever seeing him again on screen.

Special features on this DVD include an audio commentary by Peter and Bobby Farrelly, some deleted scenes, a gag reel, a couple of featurettes ("Love Triangle" and "Break the Curse") both of which were originally available to download on the Internet, a brief making-of feature and the film's original theatrical trailer.

Maybe I was just in the mood for a light romantic comedy, but considering I was fully prepared to hate this movie, it was really only 50% bad - which also made it 50% good. But, as we all know, a baseball game can't end in a tie, so if we were to go into extra innings to decide, I'd say the movie wins - but only because I love Drew Barrymore so much. Let's call it fan interference.
