I'll start this off by saying that I don't understand why anyone even bothered to make an Elektra movie. I say this for a couple of reasons. First, pretty much everyone acknowledges that Daredevil wasn't that great of a movie - so why spin it off? Second, the average person doesn't even know who Elektra is. Sure, there's your comic book fans - but who else? Everybody knows your standards, like Superman, Spider-Man, Batman. But Elektra? Did she really need a movie of her own?
The movie stars Jennifer Garner, reprising the role she played opposite Ben Affleck in Daredevil. We catch up where we left off - she's dead. Brought back to life, she's now the world's most deadly assassin. But, when her latest assignment brings her face-to-face with her past, she's forced to take another look at the path she's chosen.
At least that's what I think it was about. I was drifting in and out of sleep throughout. Yes, I found the movie very boring. Sure, Jennifer Garner is nice to look at, but really, I don't care how hot the star is, if the story isn't interesting, it won't keep my attention beyond the first fifteen minutes.
For extras, this DVD features three deleted scenes (including one with Ben Affleck as Matt Murdoch), a brief making-of featurette covering all the basics including story, characters and stunts, a look at the Comic-Con presentation by Jennifer Garner, an "Inside the Editing Room" set of featurettes looking at specific scenes from the movie, and finally, the movie's teaser, trailer and a soundtrack commercial. There's also previews for American Dad and Family Guy.
This was a comic book movie for girls - and I don't know any girls who read comic books. At its heart, the movie had a touchy-feely story about a woman and her maternal instinct. What guy would be interested in seeing that? What I'm trying to say is that the filmmakers made a movie for girls that girls wouldn't see - and a movie for guys that guys didn't want to see. Is it any wonder why the movie was such a colossal failure?
