Dirty Deeds

The Movie The Extras Reviewed by
5.5/10 4/10 Liam

In Dirty Deeds, Milo Ventimiglia plays Zach, a high school senior who takes on the school's legendary "dirty deeds". They involve drinking beer in front of the police and stealing a body from the morgue among other more disgusting things such as going into a store, jerking off in a loaf of bread and then putting it back on the shelf. He does all this in part to impress Meg (Lacey Chabert) and in part to prove himself to the school's elite. As the night goes on, the tasks get more and more difficult and Zach becomes more of a school hero, much to the disappointment of the jocks who would like nothing more than for him to fail.

I'd call Dirty Deeds a poor man's American Pie. It's a decent movie with an okay premise, but that's all. The movie is never anything more than okay. It did a decent job of keeping me interested, if only to see what the "dirty deeds" were. The biggest difference between this movie and a movie like American Pie would be the cast. Milo Ventimiglia was okay, he was miscast here. And something about Lacey Chabert bugs me. I'm just not buying whatever she's selling.

Bonus features on this DVD include the film's trailer, some behind-the-scenes interviews and a "Soho House Party" feature showing footage from a party for the movie. The big deal here is the presence of baseball star Todd Zeile who served as executive producer on the film.

I'm a big fan of teen comedies. As a teen comedy, Dirty Deeds isn't necessarily a bad movie but I wouldn't be rushing out to the video store any time soon to check it out.
