Former child star Dickie Roberts (Spade), now 35 years old and reduced to working as a parking valet, sees his opportunity to get back into show business by landing a role in the new Rob Reiner (playing himself) movie. But because Dickie did not have a "real" childhood, he's deemed wrong for the part. Desperate for a second chance, Dickie hires an All-American family to let him be their son in a misguided attempt to learn about what it's like to be a normal kid.
