The Movie The Extras Reviewed by

Around the Bend is the kind of movie where you don't really know what to expect. And in not knowing, it makes the movie that much more enjoyable to watch. The movie tells the story of four generations of a family, and a journey they take to learn about the history that binds them together.

Michael Caine stars as the grandfather, a man who sends his family on a journey to discover the truth - and in doing so discovering what it means to forgive and to move on. Christopher Walken is the father - a criminal who leaves prison to reunite with his family for this last journey. Josh Lucas is the son - a man who's become cynical after a lifetime of abandonment. And there's the grandson - who's innocence is the light in all their lives.

There are a few special features on this DVD. First, an audio commentary by writer/directr Jordan Roberts. Roberts spent 10 years trying to get this - his first movie - off the ground. So, like with most passion-projects, this audio commentary proves a fun and insightful look at the making of the movie and the history of getting it put on film. Next, we find a making-of featurette titled "It's a Good Day: The Making of 'Around the Bend'". Broken into several sections, this one delves more into the history and the making of the movie featuring interviews with Roberts as well as much of the cast and crew (surprisingly minus Christopher Walken). It's quite long and in-depth - but a fun look behind the scenes. More features include 15 deleted scenes (with optional director's commentary), a commercial for the soundtrack and the film's theatrical trailer.

The less you know the better. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the movie. It's funny at times, heartbreaking at others, and in looking at this family and their generations of problems, you can hopefully look at your own family and know that however messed up they seem, they're human.
