A Christmas Carol
I know the holidays are a long ways away, but I'm really excited for this version! I think it'll be a cool new edition of the classic story....I saw this feature with Robert Zemeckis and Jim Carrey and it seems like it'll be really interesting. What do you all think?

So just wanted to update this thread because some more footage of the movie was shown at Comic-Con last week and it seems like it's going to look pretty cool:
quote: Zemeckis showed a scene with Scrooge being visited by the ghost of his business partner in a scene that was at once literary and scary fun. The motion capture was steps above Zemeckis' own "Beowulf" and was incredibly immersive.

The movie's trailer is being shown in front of a bunch of 3D movies right now. Anyone catch a glimpse of it yet?

Not yet. I'm planning on seeing Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince in 3D Imax either this weekend or sometime next week, maybe it will play in front of that.

I saw the 3D trailer, and while the movie looks good, the 3D seems to make the image less sharp than it otherwise would be. It's always been a problem with the format - it's a lot better than it was when first introduced but there is still some blurring, often due to motion. You get that with 2D films as well, but it is more pronounced in 3D. Nevertheless, I love 3D films and will definitely be going to see this.

Thanks for sharing - I have yet to see the trailer. I'm a fan of 3D movies myself and I always feel like Zemeckis is always pushing the boundaries with it and motion-capture so really curious to see the look of it. Hopefully soon!

I completely agree I watched both Up and Beowulf in 3d and what really bothers me is the blurriness especially in scenes with lots of motion

I saw the 3D trailer and thought it was amazing! The images didn't look too blurry to me, in fact I loved how this looked in 3D - the whole thing was very dark and visually stunning. Thought Jim Carrey looked fantastic as Scrooge/Ghosts/etc...I also definitely will be looking forward to this!

I think that there's simply to many versions of this movie already. Why don't they make a new movie out of a different Dickens book that hasn't been done yet.

I think it's not so much about Dickens, but more about doing a Christmas movie, one that might become an annual event on TV, etc. that keeps the royalty payments rolling in year after year. Is it doubly wrong to be cynical about a Christmas movie?
Anyone in the U.S. (as far as I know it doesn't come to Canada) get a chance to check out the Train Tour?

Indeed. Hollywood and recycled ideas seem to go hand in hand these days.

I honestly don't mind another re-telling of A Christmas Carol - everyone knows the story but there are so many ways to interpret it....Muppets-style, Scrooged, etc. People like different versions - this one might come be the favorite of a whole new generation of kids who are into CGI. It's never really been done before for this movie, so it may (literally) bring a new dimension to the story.
As for the train tour, it hits DC in October so I have a few months yet. But I've been hearing pretty good things about it so excited to check it out! When I go, I'll def let you know how it is.

... I don't really see why we need a new Christmas Carol movie - I mean, after the Muppets went through it, what's the point?!
Zemeckis should have done like James Cameron and come up with an original story to tell - the way he's going, expect his next project to be Treasure Island or Peter Pan - dude have showed zero originality when it comes to storytelling so far.

Isn't there talk of doing a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? After all, in Hollywood you're either making a remake or a sequel.

I remember he mentioned Roger Rabbit during Comic-Con and they recently announced he was doing Yellow Submarine.
And yeah, A Muppet Christmas Carol was pretty awesome but like I said before, I'm not one to complain about a new version if they bring something pretty new to the table, which they are. Just because he's using a story that's already been told doesn't mean he can't show originality in interpreting it (if that makes sense). Like, the Muppets brought...well..themselves and music, Scrooged had a new take on the story and this one has 3D, special fx and Jim Carrey in like 7 roles.
