Frank Miller's - 300

I'm pretty sure there was already a thread for this, but after an extensive search... Buggered if I can find it.

The Trailer is up and available for download from: HERE

This movie gonna rocks... There's nothing else to say. The two trailers I saw of this were unbelievable.
If this thing doesn't live up to my expectations, this will, hands down, be my biggest disappointment of 2007.

300

Has anyone read Frank Miller's graphic novel 300? The film is based on it. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about whether or not the film would accurately portray the messages found in the book?

I wouldn't doubt it. This looks even more faithful to the tone of the graphic novel than Sin City, which despite having Frank Miller himself on board missed the mark on several aspects.

Have you read the book? I have not. Perhaps you could give me some further insight as to what it's about?

...errr, it's about the Battle of Thermopylae

I'm certainly looking forward to this adaptation, and they're not trying to play it off as anything other than the Frank Miller adapted version, but part of me can't help but think, this story is so amazing on it's own, it doesn't need the additional flourishes that Miller has added into the story. I loooove Sin City and its stylistic qualities, everything about that movie is fantastic, but when you're making a movie about the 300 spartans, you shouldn't need all that extra junk.

And you can't tame rhinos, dammit, they're too ornery. I don't know whether this was in the graphic novel or not, but that's bugging me. They're adding these crazy elements that the story just doesn't need.

I think the 'extra flourishes' of the film are important in a way... it makes it different than the book and adds another layer of creativity. i suppose i won't be able to make any final judgments until the film is released however.

I really like the trailers, but I have this morbid fear the film won't live up to the grand promise. But what I would like to know, if anyone else has an idea... Is the song on the trailer a cover of the Nine Inch Nails track Just Like You Imagined or is it a re-edit by Reznor himself?

Cool

I'm really really hoping that this movie will meet and exceed everyones expectations.

It looks killer. I just hope they can stay true to the spirit of the graphic novel.

And maybe Hollywood can pull it's head out of it's ass and make something good for a change. That'd be super.

escapegoat, i didn't realize that the music was from NIN. i don't know if it's a re-edit or not, but i think that's absolutely amazing that they would use such a modern soundtrack for such a historical film

That was only in the trailer, aspatz.
It doesn't mean this track will actually appear in the movie soundtrack.

ya, i understand that it was only in the trailer, and how they typically use a temp track for the trailer. but i doubt they would license the song just for use in the trailer, and especially if they don't plan to use a more modern soundtrack. it would just seem pointless, at least ot me.

More common than you may think. Filmmakers often do this, they even use scores/tracks from other recent movies until theyve got their own sorted out before release. I remember seeing loads of trailers using the Gladiator themes and Black Hawk Down music.

This movie definately looks amazing and I think it's going to live up to all the hype it has created. Get ready for some intense battle scenes. Can't wait!

yeah, i think this movie is going to be good. I am a fan of action/drama movies like this, and it looks like it has some Troy/Gladiator action in it.
