The Bourne Ultimatum

Gilroy Writing The Bourne Ultimatum

Universal Pictures has signed Tony Gilroy (Armageddon) to write The Bourne Ultimatum, the first step in getting the third installment of the studio's successful spy franchise off the ground.

"Ultimatum" is the third Robert Ludlum adaptation for Gilroy after 2002's The Bourne Identity and last year's The Bourne Supremacy.

Matt Damon has publicly expressed interest in reprising his role as Jason Bourne, but no deal is expected until after Gilroy's script comes back in. The studio is also holding off talks on who'll direct. "Identity" was helmed by Doug Liman, while Paul Greengrass directed last year's "Supremacy."

The two previous "Bourne" pics have together grossed more than $500 million worldwide and been big earners on DVD, selling 15 million home video units.

That's good, these movies have been great. I can't wait for the next few. Speaking of which, I need to read the books...

I doubt it, since they don't even have the script yet, or any names attached. Supremecy had all of these things I think 6 months after Identity was released. Here it is a full yera after Supremecy and we don't have anything, so I'd doubt a 2006 release. Unless, it's in December or something, and I don't think the studio would go for a December release for this.

Yeah, I doubt it too. That's too bad, this really could be a great trilogy, they don't get the recognition they deserve as great action movies. Hopefully this one can follow in those footsteps. As far as I've heard from people who read the books, this last installment is thebest of the whole series.

Isn't there a fourth book?

I had only heard of there being three, and I only found three on Amazon when I searched. I do know there was a fourth written, but it was not written by Ludlum. It was a later addition to the series that was really more like fan fiction.

The Bourne Ultimatum

Although the third instalment of Robert Ludlum's Bourne series has gone into preproduction details are still lite as to who will Direct, although initial rumours suggested Doug Liman (Go, Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) might return nothing has been confirmed. The Script is still in development and Matt Damon is confirmed to return to the role of Jason Bourne. Expected release date is slated for Summer 2007.

Does someone know what Ultimatum is about?
I saw both movies and only read Identity, so I'm pretty clueless on what Bourne have to do exactly in the last tome.
