Revolver
Long overdue to return to his gangster/black comedy roots, Guy Ritchie is to direct the co-penned Revolver.
Synopsis:
Jake Green is a hotshot gambler, long on audacity and short on common sense. He's rarely allowed to play in any casino because he is a winner. Jake has taken in so much money over the years, he is the only client of his accountant and older brother Billy. One night, Jake, Billy and their other brother Joe are invited to sit in on a private game, where Jake is expected to lose to Dorothy Macha, a crime boss and local casino owner who can't play for squat, but always wins because people are too scared to lose to him. Jake isn't afraid of Macha, and not only beats Dorothy in a quick game of chance, but takes every possible opportunity to insult the man. Jake and his brothers leave the game, and Macha puts out the order for a hit on Jake, who ends up working for and being protected by a pair of brothers, Avi and Zack, who are out to take Macha down.
The most unusual thing to note is that Luc Besson has taken an interest in this project and is a Co-Producer.

After watching the trailer to this (a link to which can be found on the main Empire site, find it yourselves!), I must say this does look like a nice return of Guy Ritchie of old! No more Swept Away bollocks!
Check the trailer out!

This looks like it will continue his fine tradition in movie making. Excellent, good to see Guy back to his old self.

I'm looking forward to this. Matthew Vaughn and Guy Ritchie penned this together right? Hm, should be great. All their stuff is classy and very funny. Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels were both riots I thought. And they really are good at using Jason Statham well.

Man, Guy Ritchie really needs something to redeem himself after doing the horrendus movie Swept Away. I am very excited about seeing this flick because I am a very big fan of Snatch(hell, it is one of my favorite flicks). Also, I need to see Layer Cake because I have never seen any Matthew Vaughn work.

Matthew Vaughn produced all of Guy Ritchies films (Snatch, Lock Stock etc...). As for seeing Layer Cake, don't delay, it's truly a great film which you would assume Ritchie would have directed himself!

Layer Cake hasn't come out here yet(it comes out in August on DVD). So I have to wait a little longer to see it.

You should have seen it at the Cinema. I think it's available on DVD from the UK... Order it from somewhere like www.sendit.com

Thanks, Man. But I don't think I have a region free player.

i got this off imdb.com, so read at your own risk. i didn't really read it, just the first couple of sentences but i got the gist of what the guy was trying to say:
I just saw the film, and how to put it other than "this is probably one of the most surrealistically AWFUL films I've ever laid my eyes upon" ? And I was not the only one. At the end of this preview screening, everyone went out of the movie theater, baffled, eyes rolling into the void, wondering what it was they just "saw". But to make things straight, I have to clarify one point : there is a world between making films where the viewer is left to recreate his own plot, films where the absence of logic is an artistic point of view in itself, films in which the apparent incoherence leads to a sort of strange sense of hypnosis (OK, you know I was thinking of David Lynch) AND making this stylish (so to speak) mish-mash that, even when you focus to concentrate 10 seconds, doesnt ever make ANY sense at all. It is clear to me that from the start, this project is lead by absolutely no perspective other than shooting red and blue flashy sequences in a casino, with Jason Statham wearing a wig, Ray Liotta entirely naked and a blonde bimbo licking on a lollipop crossing her legs just to show her panties. Without forgetting a few animated sequences (thank you Kill Bill) which are utterly ugly and useless. Pleaaaase ! OK, I've never been a huge Guy Ritchie fan, but "Revolver" is beyond anything I thought was conceivable as part of "mainstream" cinema. There have surely been more terrible Z movies than "Revolver" before and there will surely be others after, but what really puts me off me is that this is already sold as a high-octane thriller, and all those action-thirsty ticket-buyers will get away with is a NON-STOP VOICEOVER (the film is almost 2 hours long !) repeating over and over the same five "metaphors" about life, gambling, chess, God or whatever, without forgetting the existentialist *beep* that goes with it. All this, in addition, without any sense of humor, which makes a huge difference – if not the hugest – with previous Guy Richie films. To be honest, "Revolver" really made me want to throw a barrel of vitriol on the screen. Which I didn't do because I'm a civilized person.

Jeez, I hate asshole reviewers that think they are better than the director and his/her's films. Besides, IMDB is not that reliable of a source for reviews.

well, this person later posted his ratings for lock, stock and two smoking barrels (which i think he gave a 3/10) and snatch (which he gave a 6/10) so i don't trust what he says.

i saw swept away and i didn't hate it as much as the general public.
saw revolver tonight. not too sure what to think. after reading that review i posted above, i could almost see where this guy is coming from but with that being said, i didn't dislike this movie as much as he did. the movie has moments of brilliance. but it also has some very confusing scenes and scenes that i still don't really understand. i would say this movie is better than swept away but not nearly as good as snatch or lock, stock.

It has recieved very negative reviews, some said it would do moderate business at the box office at best and some said at the preview screenings people laughed because the film was to complicated and thought it was trying to be to clever.

I've heard awful reviews as well...anyone see it that can say why it is so awful? Not that it will necessarily stop me, but just curious...
