If they do that, then this is just gonna be one of those movies with great potential but they they blew it by casting an actor just because they're a big name celebrity, not because of their talent. I'd rather have some unknown actor play Tony Stark.

I've long been a supporter of this project, I think it would be awesome. But please, at least try to find a good Tony Stark. Just don't throw the role at someone like Reeves to chew on.

I don't see how a realistic Iron Man costume can be made for a live-action movie. In the comics, the suit has a metallic sheen but is flexible like cloth. A rubber or spandex suit wouldn't work. What could they be planning?

I'm thinking CGI or maybe they'll come up with some extremely flexible metallic synthetic to use.

What are you talking about. It's not flexible. It's a full suit of armor dude. I've never layed eyes on an Ultimate Iron Man comic, which he might have some kind of space-age suit in but other than that his suit was never flexible. He can move in it, yea, but it's supposed to be a very heavy metal suit.

I think he means the armor at the joints. It's still plated with metal and yet flexible.

I don't have any of the comic book issue numbers but I've seen the drawings of the Iron Man suit in a briefcase. The suit arms, leggings, shorts, gloves, and boots fold/collapse into themselves (like the jointed plastic novelty cups). The only solid pieces are the helmet, chest/back plates, pieces of the shoulder, gloves, and boots.

Tony Stark has variations of the suit for different occassions and some were solid suits but his everyday suit collapsed and expanded over his body.

thers a link in the marvel super heros updates that shows a promo picture of what the iron man suite could look like

damn this movie is far off. its so far off that hoping a certain actor plays iron man(i forget the actual characters name) is unneccesary. i imagine the flying being handled similarly to jingle all the way with arnold shwarzenager.

Screenwriter David Hayter's latest draft of Iron Man has won over New Line and the studio is going out with it to directors to get the project started in early 2005:

Sources advised IGNFF that this draft of Iron Man is very Tom Clancy-esque in tone and involves the conflict between Tony Stark and his father Howard over Stark Industries. The Armored Avenger's origin has been updated from the Vietnam back story used in the comics.

Just read in a magazine:

"Justin Timberlake is currently rumoured to be in negotiations to star as Tony Stark in the Marvel comics movie adaption of Iron Man"

The Justin story better be a rumor. The studios are overdosing on comic hero movies and I predict that after this binge, we won't see any comic book hero movie for another 10 years.

Sounds like nothing more than a bad rumor. That really might be the worst casting rumor i've ever heard.

Who would you guys like to see for Tony Stark? I've heard alot of pushers for Tom Cruise, he could sleepwalk this role in my opinion. I just hope it doesn't go to a pansy like Justin Timberlake.

Also, concerning the plot, do you guys think they should delve into Tony Starks alcohol addiction? The supposed conflict between Tony Stark and his dad seems a little thin for a full fledged movie. Where's the villianry? Having a father-son conflict reminds me a bit too much of The Hulk for comfort.

I did read an impressive rumour a while back which stated that Tom Cruise (who would be my pick) was in negotiations and would likely do the film if it was 'Gritty'. There was meant to be a re-write of the script to incorporate the Alcoholic ear of the comics for GRIT to woo Cruise onboard. With Mission Impossible 3 on the shelf AGAIN there is a good chance that Iron Man will be the next film for Cruise after War of the Worlds.

I do pray, however, that this Timberfake rumour is nothing more than a red herring. I've never been much of a Tom Cruise fan, but I really do think he'd be pretty much perfect for the role.

Tom or Matt Damon would be my choices to play Tony Stark.

The producers/writers may be using the father-son conflict to explain/justify Tony's alcoholism (although it was more complicated in the comics) and to provide a backstory to fill out Tony's character. It sounds like they are using Ang Lee's interpretation of Hulk to develop parts of the Iron Man story. But I agree that the Iron Man story needs a better developed bad guy than what's been rumored/reported so far.
