Married With Children Reunion Special, New Comedy Sneak Peek, Bonus Trailers

True story - Married...With Children actually had the working name of "Not the Cosbys" while it was being developed. The creators wanted to emphasize that much that it was not going to be your typical American sitcom. And while most thought that MWC would flop, that people didn't want to see a family that hated each other and that only united to hate outsiders, they were wrong. The show lasted 11 years and made Al Bundy an icon.
The first season, all 13 episodes, is now on DVD. I have to admit that for a while in the mid-90s, this was my absolute favourite show on TV. Al never failed to crack me up with his jokes about fat women, the nudie bar, his useless wife Peg, his delinquent kids Kelly & Bud, his annoying neighbour Marcy. That's what made watching the first season so weird. There aren't that many jokes about these topics. The series seemed like it was just getting its legs. It's still something fresh as opposed to regular sitcoms, seeing characters that hate each other. It just doesn't have the bite that the series picks up in later seasons.
The 2-disc set is pretty sparse on special features. There is a MWC reunion special that originally aired on FOX in 2003. It's fun to watch the cast all together again, and there are some highlights in the special that made me laugh out loud numerous times. It was just disappointing that there was nothing made specifically for the discs. No commentaries. No introductions. No conversations with the creators or cast. The only other feature is trailers to other movies & TV shows coming on DVD.
If you're a fan of MWC, this is definitely worth a look. The only other time you might get to be re-united with the Bundys is on syndication, but sadly it only seems they air episodes in the middle of the night.
