Yet another Marvel character hit the big screens with this year's adaptation of Daredevil. While it probably didn't have the mainstream credibility of Spider-Man or The Hulk, the comic seems quite popular in the comic universe.

Matt Murdock was blinded by radioactive waste as a child. However, in losing this sense, Matt gained superhuman qualities in his other four senses including hearing so sensitive that it acts like a radar. After his father is murdered, he grows up to be a vigilante named Daredevil, protecting the streets of Hell's Kitchen from the evil of the crime lord Kingpin. The movie follows a plot line where Matt meets the love of his life, Elektra, and has to face off against arch enemy Bullseye.

I didn't think the movie was as bad as some other reviews and comments I've read and heard. One friend called it one of the worst 10 movies he's seen in his life. I wouldn't go that far. While it didn't blow me away, it did manage to keep my attention for 2 hours. I enjoyed the over-the-top performance of Colin Farrell as Bullseye, as well as Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin, who was vastly underused in my opinion.

The 2-disc DVD is loaded with extras. The first disc has a text commentary providing some interesting facts about the movie, mainly pointing out connections to the comic book. There is also an audio commentary from writer/director Mark Steven Johnson and producer Gary Foster, which mainly involves them talking about the movie-making process itself. A loaded second disc is split into a comic side and film side. The comic side has bio pages on Daredevil's principle characters. There is also an hour-long documentary interviewing most on the main players in the Daredevil comic in the last 30+ years. Some interesting stuff here, but probably not something that would be of interest to the casual fan.

The film side of the second disc has multiple documentaries. There's your usual fare - music videos, trailers and still galleries. There is a brief documentary on Tom Sullivan, a blind man since birth who served as a blind consultant on the movie. There's another hour-long documentary about the making of Daredevil, covering everything from special effects to the score of the film. There's also a condensed version of this documentary, a 25-minute HBO special which pretty much covers the same material as the longer one (even with some of the same footage and actor-quotes!!). Obviously, one is more suitable for the hard core fan and one for the casual fan. Both will provide interesting info for the target audience.

Daredevil will probably do for people just looking for something to occupy their time for the evening. Only the die hard fans would probably want to own this one, though.

The Movie: 6/10
The Extras: 7/10
