This film had the markings of a stinker.
The premise felt unoriginal and plot points were overly explained for
such a simple story. Effects work seemed made-for-TV with small
explosions and unconvincing wound makeup. Were it not for some
language and mature subject matter, this could have easily passed for
a forgettable action flick for kids. But even with all that said, I surprisingly
found myself somewhat entertained and never bored. There were even a
few nice shots of modern military helicopters in action, though they
oddly gave too much credibility and felt like something belonging to
another movie. A better movie.
As a DVD, it was strange to find a film presented only in a pan and
scanned version. With no choice in the matter, many will already be
put off. And for further disappointment, extras here only consisted of
three trailers for more recent Columbia Tri-Star releases. No
commentary track.
More fun than one may expect, but only a little more.
