There is no mistaking it. We have a big time action flick here. While the plot is far-fetched, it is expected as such and manages to capture a video game feel. One gets the feeling the story is just filler for the action. Speaking of which, the action sequences are original, exciting and set in interesting environments. Angelina Jolie fits perfectly into the title role. The only element suspect here would be the visual effects. They just don't feel on par with those from other big budget movies. That said, they are still good and are quite passable.

There are plenty of extras here, including an entertaining look at the physical training Jolie undergoes for this role and also a good featurette on the stunts done in the film. Other extras include cast interviews, a few deleted scenes, 8 visual effects explanations, a music video, a look at the Tomb Raider phenomenon and a look at an alternate title sequence. Director Simon West also provides a decent commentary giving the fan some nice bits of behind-the-scenes information.

If you can look past the plot you will enjoy this movie for what it is - fun.

The Movie: 7/10
The Extras: 6/10

Recommendation: Rent This One
