This sequel to the surprise hit The Mummy (a surprise to me anyway), lacked something the first one had - originality. Not only did they bring back the same villain, many of the situations are set up very similarly. Sure they added a little kid and The Rock, but you still get that "been there, done that" feeling. Now I can't say it was all that bad. There was plenty of action. Maybe too much if you ask me. The special effects were done well again, with the exception of The Rock's digital counterpart. Something just looked off about that one. Oh well. I guess you can't hit them all out of the park.

They sure packed a lot into this single DVD. Here we find material designed for their next movie, The Scorpion King. These would be a short conversation with The Rock and a teaser trailer for the new film. The Mummy Returns fare include, a making-of featurette, a special effects breakdown, outtakes, a music video, theatrical trailer, an amusement park ride walk-though, PS2 game trailer, cast/crew info, production info and some relevant Egyptology info. Nothing much special there. The commentary by director Stephen Sommers and producer Bob Ducsay was informative, but not really that entertaining. Sorry guys.

Well, I supposed they just had to make a sequel after the success of the first one. Too bad this one just felt forced.

The Movie: 6/10
The Extras: 3/10

Recommendation: Rent This One
