Here's a movie who's plot was just an
excuse to show some street racing. And what a great job it did at
that. The film makers pulled it off using a fresh design that
effectively conveyed a feel of speed. However, to my disappointment
there was just not enough of it. With one big scene in the beginning,
and two towards the end, there really wasn't much happening in the
middle, which was where the film slowed. Oh well, three big scenes was
plenty I suppose.
At first glance, there seemed to be plenty of extras on the disc. And
there was, but everything was quite brief. Found here were, some
uninteresting deleted scenes, a run-of-the-mill making-of featurette,
some very dull looks at stunts and special effects, a pretty
interesting "editing for the MPAA" sequence, a visual
effects montage, storyboard comparisons, music videos, the film's
trailer, production notes, and cast and crew info. As for a commentary
track, a pretty informative one was provided by director Rob Cohen.
This movie was all about the races. Nothing more.
