There seemed to be two different movies presented here, each taking up an hour to tell. The first half dealt with the turnaround of a losing high school team, while the better half (the second half) presented the more enjoyable plot of making a comeback late in life. While the lighter high school stuff had it's moments, it became cumbersome and took more screen time than necessary. The road to making the major leagues was the heart of the film for me, and though it didn't quite shed the TV movie-of-the-week feel, it did successfully convey the emotion and drama of the situation. And being based on a true story, I couldn't help but root for our hero, hoping he would accomplish his boyhood dream.

For extras, this DVD contained a charming featurette focusing on the real story of Jim Morris, some baseball tips from an expert, seven smartly left out deleted scenes (commentary-less, but with intros explaining their absence from the final film), and some sneak peek trailers for other Disney films. There was also a feature length commentary from director John Lee Hancock and star Dennis Quaid who both brought some anecdotes, but mostly spoke of fluff on the movie.

A warm family Disney flick. Enjoyable, but not the classic I was expecting.

The Movie: 6/10
The Extras: 3/10

Recommendation: Rent This One
