Here's yet another Hong Kong flick
repackaged for North America to cash in on a star's name. This time,
it really doesn't work. Mediocre action was rampant, simply not
comparing well with what modern audiences expect, but still impressive
on a pure skill level. The camera work stuck out a bit with odd
moments of cinematic flair. Comedy too was on the hokey side from
beginning to end. It never found a good fit with the darker aspects to
the mixed-up plot, though I suppose translation may have factored to
that. Which leads me to the biggest failing of this movie, the
dubbing. With no original language track available, we're stuck with a
voice rendition so horrid that it was laughable on it's own merit.
What a disappointing re-issue.
One of the most bare DVD's I've ever encountered, all that was here
were six sneak peek trailers of older martial arts films. Commentary?
Forget it, look elsewhere.
I'm sure it was passable in it's day as a Chinese film. This version
however, was an abomination.
