A great film which many believe to
contain the best chase scene.....ever. Personally, I felt it to be a
bit dated. After all, it was released before I was even born. That
said, there exist very few films, if any, that have the tension
director William Friedkin added in with his filming style. It really
did draw me into every scene. Gene Hackman gave a wonderful
performance as did Roy Scheider, playing the actual detectives that
solved the case. It's kinda intimidating to think of their real life
counterparts.
This two disc set included a few documentaries which, quite frankly,
were not really that interesting. Deleted scenes were a treat, and
here there were seven of them. There were also two commentary tracks.
One, by Friedkin was fairly interesting. The other was a non-scene
specific one from Hackman and Scheider who generally spoke about their
characters. Other standard bonus fare found here were a stills gallery
and trailers. All in all, no substantial bonus material found here.
What we had here was a great film, though a little on the raw side.
