This flick could be seen just as a low
budget horror disaster, and at first glance, I would tend to agree.
However, to be honest, it did freak me out as a kid with it's
rudimentary gruesome effects. But now, I see this movie for it's
comedic value, which stemmed from it's total absurdness. You just
can't help but chuckle at every character and at every scene. In this
light, you can almost see the glint in the film makers' eyes telling
us to have fun.
Extras here are certain to delight every follower. These included, an
interesting featurette on this movie's beginnings, a highly
entertaining documentary on fans, some raw behind-the-scenes footage
and outtakes, the film makers' bios, some production photos and
artwork, the theatrical trailer, and four TV spots. Also encountered
on this disc, were two amusing commentaries. While writer/director Sam
Raimi and producer Robert Tapert did provided some funny anecdotes on
their track, star Bruce Campbell delivered more of it on his. The true
gem of this edition however, was the unique packaging, a replica of a
book from the movie. Looking at it, you just can't help but touch.
For you non-fans, just enjoy this for what it is.
