Commentary by Mel Brooks, Special Behind-the-Scenes Footage,
Original Theatrical Trailer
|
This classic satire still delivered the
laughs. While, not as outrageous as the spoofs of today, it did
however contain a reasonable plot. It never appeared as just an excuse
to display clever jokes. That said, I doubt if this movie could have
stood on it's own without mocking other films. With plenty of humor,
there's bound to be something at which everyone would laugh.
Conversely, those used to edgier fare will likely be left
disappointed.
Bonus material consisted of a good behind-the-scenes featurette and
the theatrical trailer. Also found was a commentary track from
director Mel Brooks which provided some insight. There were however a
few moments where he went silent as he enjoyed his own handiwork.
This movie didn't have me on the ground in fits of laughter, but I did
find it satisfactory.
