I loved this classic sports comedy when
I first saw it as a kid. While the laughs are not that crude by modern
standards, I'm sure they were back in the day. Unfortunately, my
memory of the film surpasses those I have now, making me wish I hadn't
watched it again. Though the outrageously funny characters still make
me chuckle a lot, the plot is much more tedious than I remember. I was
almost put to sleep toward the end. However, the hockey action is
still probably the best to this day, even if some of it is out of
focus.
This edition really doesn't warrant the 'special' label. While an
interview with the Hanson Brothers is fun, it only lasts five minutes.
There's also a collection of all the Hanson scenes that really do not
add much since one could easily access them from the scene selection
area anyway. What we're being left with are some cast and crew
information, the theatrical trailer, production notes and a pointless
DVD recommendations section. The commentary from the Hanson Brothers
is amusing, but only when they actually talk, which is quite rare.
Never saw it before? Do so. Loved it decades ago? You're better off
keeping your nostalgia.
