Ok, what makes this movie so special? I've always heard it was great, but now that I've seen it, I'd like to question why. Sure, there's some romance, and there were some cute scenes, but not much romantic cuteness, if you know what I mean. Performances were decent, though if anything, it's the familiar situations with which audiences would relate. The plot too was suspect in that it never flowed. There were some cleverly poignant moments, but they just popped in and out awkwardly. In the end, the most surprising thing of it all was that it never succeeded in putting me to sleep.

Quite a few extras here, most of which aren't that interesting. The seven minute featurette was nothing more than talk about the plot. There were also twenty-eight extra scenes comprised of deleted, extended and alternate ones. With the exception of a few deleted ones, they were very, very dull. And to top it off, I never figured out how to access the listed commentary for the alternate scenes. Other extras found on the DVD were two theatrical trailers, eight TV spots and just seven production photos. The commentary by director Cameron Crowe and stars John Cusack and Ione Sky was the only appealing bonus with plenty of anecdotes.

Perhaps I just had too high an expectation for this film. After all, it always seemed regarded as a classic. While I didn't hate it, I just didn't find anything that special.

The Movie: 4/10
The Extras: 2/10

Recommendation: See It If It's Free
