Commentary with Director Oliver Stone, "Into the Valley of
Death" Documentary, Eight Deleted Scenes, Trailer, Photo
Gallery, Collectible Booklet

Wow, what a surprise. I've always
enjoyed movies that have some air of fact to them. Even more so when
it isn't focused on one particular person. In this case, the story may
seem concentrated on one character, but the real star to me is El
Salvador with it's social difficulties. The plot, in itself, was not
all that compelling to start, but along with some solid acting,
director Oliver Stone picked it up by instilling a feeling of rawness.
Whether planned or due to budgetary necessity, it nonetheless fits
perfectly.
This special edition comes with one of the best behind-the-scenes
featurettes I've ever seen. Not really touching on film making itself,
the magic of this hour-long extra is in it's candid interviews with
the actors and their real life counterparts. The other bonuses are
more run-of-the-mill including, the theatrical trailer, a photo
gallery, and eight deleted scenes, which unfortunately don't come with
input from the director. The commentary track from Stone is great in
that he conveys plenty of interesting stories, though he is prone to
lapses of silence.
I'm not sure if it's the history or the movie itself I enjoy more. In
the end, it's both with which I walk away.
