Remembering and Restoring a Hitchcock
Classic", Featurette: A Conversation with Screenwriter John
Michael Hayes, Production Photographs, Re-release Trailer
narrated by James Stewart
|
This celebrated Alfred Hitchcock film
can still deliver some magic, though I'm sure it was more prominent in
it's day. Modern thrillers have raised the bar in terms of the
quantity, if not quality, when it comes to suspense. This movie's
intensity seemed tame in comparison. There was almost none for the
most part until the abrupt ending which also didn't satisfy my
expectations. But there was something to the construction of the light
plot and it's characters that somehow felt exquisitely refined and
amusing. Certainly unconventional, but not so out of touch as to be
labeled an experiment. The unique presentation kept my attention
focused all the way and provided adequate entertainment.
There were a few nice extras on this DVD. They included a nice hour
long documentary on the film, an informative interview with
screenwriter John Michael Hayes, a short photo montage, a theatrical
trailer, a re-release trailer for a collection of Hitchcock works,
some production notes, and cast and crew information. There was no
audio commentary track.
Though from the master of suspense, my heart never raced. But on its
storytelling merit, well worth the viewing.
