Commentaries by Jean-Jacques Annaud, Michael Gruskoff, Ron
Perlman and Rae Dawn Chong, 15 Video Galleries with Director's
Commentary, Theatrical Trailer, "Quest for Fire
Adventure" Featurette
|
On a certain level this film succeeded,
being well prepared and performed exquisitely. However, the theme of
prehistoric man itself lead to a tedious plot. After the initial
novelty of having only physical mannerisms with no spoken dialogue
wore off, the pace of it all just seemed to drop. And while specific
scenes were truly engaging to watch, there were too many that weren't.
In a broader scope, this film's accomplishments were undone by an
inherently dull subject.
A terrific behind-the-scenes featurette was an extra found here as
well as the theatrical trailer and fifteen photo montages with
explanations from director Jean-Jacques Annaud. There were also two
commentary tracks, one from Annaud and a group piece from producer
Michael Gruskoff, actor Ron Perlman and actress Rae Dawn Chong. Each
track provided interesting filming anecdotes, both personal and
professional.
Unique idea, but not enough to sustain my attention.
